Social Innovation Fund

Yesterday (May 5, 2009), the President announced that he would ask Congress in the FY2010 budget to provide $50 million in seed capital for his Social Innovation Fund, fulfilling a campaign pledge. The Fund will identify the most promising, results-oriented non-profit programs and expand their reach throughout the country.

There is not much information in the announcement of the White House, nevertheless it is clear statement of the new president. Time will show how serious Obama´s engagement with social innovations is.

Last week we had a strategy meeting for the initiative Thinkcamp. It is an Eco-Social Entrepreneurship trying to bring momentum to the sustainable innovation movement. At the meeting, it was interesting to see the very different approaches between analytical thinkers and design-oriented thinkers. For those unexperienced with design thinking, it is difficult to understand that this is not a mere add-on, but a completly different approach.
